Care instructions for your handmade wooden board

Handcrafted serving boards made of solid wood are not only indispensable kitchen aids, but their unique design also makes them a decorative eye-catcher on any dining table. To preserve the beauty and functionality of your wooden board over the long term, careful care is crucial. This care guide will tell you how to optimally clean, maintain, and store your serving board.

  • Cleaning after use:
    Wooden boards should never be put in the dishwasher. The intense moisture can cause the wood to swell and damage the surface. It's better to clean the board by hand:
  • Use warm water and a mild dish soap.
  • Use a soft sponge to clean the surface of the board of any food residue.
  • Rinse the board thoroughly and then dry it immediately with a clean cloth to avoid water stains.
  • Disinfection and odor neutralization:
    Despite wood's natural antibacterial properties, odors from strong foods like onions or garlic can penetrate the wood. For effective cleaning and disinfection, we recommend the following methods:
  • Rub the board with coarse salt and half a lemon. The salt acts as a natural exfoliator, removing impurities, while the lemon disinfects and neutralizes odors.
  • Alternatively, a mixture of water and vinegar is effective. Lightly clean the board with a damp cloth and allow it to air dry completely.
  • Regular care with oil:
    To protect the wood of your serving board from drying out and promote its longevity, you should oil it regularly. This will keep the natural material supple and durable:
  • Use food-safe oils such as mineral oil, linseed oil or special wood oils that are suitable for contact with food.
  • Apply a small amount of oil to a clean cloth and gently massage it into the wood.
  • Allow the oil to absorb thoroughly, ideally overnight, and remove any excess oil with a dry cloth the next day.
  • Store correctly:
    To avoid deformation and damage from environmental influences, the wooden board should be stored in a dry place, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. It's best to store the board upright so that air can circulate from all sides and the board dries evenly. This will ensure it retains its shape and maintains its good condition.
