🥖 Small or XXL? – How to find the right cutting board for your project

A cutting board is more than just a workspace – it is the stage for good food. But which size is right? Small and nimble for vegetables or larger and mighty for roasts, steaks & BBQ? In this article, we show you what really matters when choosing the size of your board – all without fuss, but with lots of experience from our manufactory.

🔪 What do you need your cutting board for?

Before comparing sizes, you should ask yourself a simple question:
What happens on the board?

🦕 Vegetables & everyday kitchen:

Small cutting board in a light kitchen, with chopped vegetables, herbs, and knives – natural daylight.

Smaller boards approximately 30–40 cm in length are perfectly sufficient if you quickly need to chop, slice or prepare something.
✅ Ideal for: onions, herbs, fruit, breakfast, small kitchen boards.

🦧 Meat, BBQ & large cuts:

Here you need space! If you pull apart pulled pork, slice brisket, or want to cut multiple steaks at once, you need a board with at least 50×40 cm, better 60×40 cm or more.

The larger the board, the more important it is:

  • ✅ regular maintenance with oil
  • ✅ sufficient storage space

But: A well-maintained XXL board will last you decades. And yes – it simply looks incredibly good.

📚 Conclusion: Give yourself the surface you need

A too small board is annoying – a too large one impresses.
If you are unsure between two sizes: choose the larger.
Especially for BBQ, you don't want to be annoyed if it gets tight when cutting.
